An idea of Entanglement & Play
- immigration museum expansion
The immigration museum and the Old Customs House building itself are a story container of all non-indigenous residents' history in Australia. As the world rapidly changed, today, it has lost its power and ability to fully reflect the current socio-cultural phenomena in Melbourne society.
An expansion is required for immigration museum to allow the building itself being part of the storytelling of today's world as well as the past.
The project is inspired by Joseph Fanjoy's
artwork "Quantum Entanglement", which I believe reflects and visualize the current complex relationships and phenomena in the context. The idea of entangement between the past - present, a multi-cultural society are key exploration of the immigration museum new expansion.
There are numbers of children migrants moving to a new country with their parents which are usually found issues in terms of social, communication or behaviors with lack
of notice. Children, as defined in Australia, aged from 3-18 years old, have most of their time spent in education and play. The design expands on its educational purposes through playful events to enhance all visitors' engagement in the journey. The overall experience highly contrast between existing bold, historical with a light and colorful atmosphere to attract the target group as well as general visitors.
