Group: Ranzhe Chen, Tiansu Wang, Xiyan Mao, Yuyao Li

The project site locates in Brunswick, Melbourne, which has a suburban context. On the North, is the Dunstan Reserve which held large activities. There is a variety of facilities including hospitals, schools and markets on the Eastern side, and Apartment buildings on the Southern side. There are also planning to have full tree covering on the Western elevation, between the site and the city highway.

For the study, we create our group called YRTX Studio. The link on the right is a record of our discussion and design thinking.

The project is aiming to provide a community that is flexible, resilient to change and affordable for the younger workers and students. We started by mapping, surveying and analyzing the existing surrounding context, including domestic traffic situation, parking, permeable surfaces, roof types activity and attractions etc.

Then implement a set of rules and strategies to give quality to the external access, space, circulation and local climate response. We tried to link the community to the surrounding to construct better environment. The massing model is defined with the design of a modular system as the bases of our project. The clients in this project are also significant, we tried our best to tie up with them as our design was processed. We provided the client with a Q&A form, and analyze their behaviour & demands. We test the different quality of spaces and see their potential to suit the requirement of a specific group of clients.
